STEM - Salt Crystals

In STEM this term, students in Grade 4 investigated minerals and crystals in the world around us. They explored the different ways in which crystals and minerals are categorised including location, hardness scales, structure and use. During the term, students used their understandings to grow and monitor salt crystals. The salt crystals were created using Epsom salt, water and food colouring. To create the crystals, we made a saturated solution and waited for the water to evaporate over time. The crystals took 8 weeks to grow and look amazing.
